  • Specialising in tenugui hand towels, Japan’s oldest cotton merchant.
  • After serving Nobunaga Oda, founded in 1615 in the early Edo period. Japan’s oldest cotton merchant. From revival designs from the early Showa period to new designs unveiled by the current owner, the 14th generation Ihei Hosotsuji, approx. 300 varieties of tenugui for you to enjoy. Kyo-Yuzen Experience Workshop, Marumasu Nishimuraya

  • A workshop for experiencing Kyo-Yuzen run by a specialty store dyeing Japanese textiles since 1905.
  • Run in a renovated residence, it offers a taste of a traditional Kyoto artform. Also features a Furoshiki Wrapping Class and Chopstick Crafting Class, with 6 courses in total ranging from beginners to more serious students. There is also a shop and gallery for Japanese-style goods in Kyomachiya Mayu where the workshops take place.
