JR HAKATA CITY

  • Hakata Station is the largest train station in Kyushuu and the transport hub of the island. This is an must-see for your trip to Fukuoka, as the station is home to shopping mall Amu Plaza Hakata and Hakata Keikyu, a local department store. The building also features a restaurant zone called City Dining Kuten as well as Hakata Deitos which features a noodle street where you can try out Hakata and Kyushu's famed tonkotsu ramen. You can experience plenty of Hakata speciality dishes, regional products and even take some home as souvenirs of your trip from the Miyagemon Market.

  • Fukuoka Yahuoku! Dome is Japan's largest retractable roofed stadium, boasting an impressive area of 84.603㎡. As the home ground of the Hakata Softbank Hawks, this stadium hosts various events throughout the year including professional baseball games as well as concerts and expositions. HAKATA SUZUKAKE HONTEN

  • This historic shop has flourished in Hakata for years, and attracts vistors from across the country with famous Japanese sweets and great Western style lunch sets. With branches in Tokyo and Nagoya, the original Hakata shop and cafe was established in 1923, specializing in Japanese. In addition to Monaka, which is the shop's traditional speciality, you can also enjoy parfait and Ammitsu- a Japanese traditional dessert made of small cubes of sweet agar jelly. If your looking for a savoury treat we'd also reccomend the cafe as a popular lunch spot, the hamburger made using Miyazaki prefectures Kinako pork, and rich Napolitan pasta topped with soft boiled egg are absolutely delicious.

The Original Hakata Mentai ricebowl

  • This is the first restaurant in Japan to specialise in mentaiko, a type of spicy roe, and is renowned for being the home of the original Hakata mentai ricebowl. A crisp layer of nori seaweed sits atop a steaming bowl of rice, this rich savoury base is topped with the spicy roe which has been marinated in a homemade traditional sauce. You can choose from four types of spice and top the mentaiko with a rich umami sauce. This shop is famous throughout Japan and many domestic and international tourists visit Hakata just to taste this rich original dish, don't forget that you can take home a bento box or a set of fresh mentaiko and sauce to share with friends back home.
