Yushima Tenmangu Shrine

  • Home to the god of learning
  • Tenmangu is a shinto shrine that enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the kami (god) of learning. It is one of three great Tenjin shrines – shrines dedicated to Michizane – in the Kanto region and becomes crowded with students and their families who pray for success in school entrance exams. In addition to benefitting study, praying at this shrine is said to bring good luck, assist with winning, support romantic matchmaking and happy marriage, and improve one’s crafting abilities.
