  • Morning market known for its selection of fresh and delicious local produce
  • This open-air market established near to Sendai train station soon after WWII consists of around 70 stalls. It has long been known for its large selection of fresh and reasonably-priced seasonal fruits, vegetables and fish and is fondly referred to as “Sendai’s Kitchen” by locals. This is a great place to experience daily life in the city first hand.

Gyutan (beef tongue) restaurant Kaku

  • Various ways to enjoy gyutan
  • One of Sendai’s signature foods is gyutan and this is the place that any Sendai native will recommend. It offers a range of high quality cuisine, including popular dishes such as raw gyutan sashimi and gyutan tataki, where the meat is lightly grilled and served with a homemade sweet and sour dipping sauce. The gyutan-yaki grilled beef tongue garnished with a sprinkling of salt comes highly recommended.
