“Ozu Washi,” a 369-year-old traditional Japanese “washi” paper specialty store

In this article, I would like to introduce “Ozu Washi,” a store located about a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
Ozu Washi is a washi specialty store founded in the Edo period. The store carries washi from all over Japan and also has a history museum, gallery, and studio workshop where visitors can experience making washi by hand.
The store features a wide range of washi products, including calligraphy paper, craft washi, and handmade washi. They come in various colors and sizes, so you can buy the perfect washi for your needs. There are also several products with Japanese-style watermarks, such as facial tissues and bathroom tissue paper.
At the History Museum, you can learn about the 369-year history of Ozu Washi, view old documents and account books made of washi, and see a display of traditional “senryo-bako” (boxes used to store money). It’s also said that washi can be preserved for over 1000 years, and the beautiful state of preservation is simply amazing.
At the experience workshop, you can create your own original handmade washi. In one hour, you can learn and experience the process of making washi, from using the raw material made by mixing the individual fibers from the bark of “kozo” mulberry tree with water, to making paper with traditional tools and then drying it.
You can also design your own paper using colored “kozo” mulberry bark, gold and silver foil, and various types of washi, allowing you to create a one-of-a-kind sheet of washi. For further information regarding the time slots for the washi design experience, please contact Ozu Washi directly. (Contact number: 090-4842-0139)
Since its founding, Ozu Washi has been enriching the culture of Nihonbashi with its high-quality washi. Why not visit Ozu Washi and experience the traditions that have continued since the Edo period?
