Since Kyoto is located inland, the people here traditionally created dishes using dry goods such as kelp and herring, which were transported by cargo ships. Nishin soba (buckwheat noodles topped with broiled herring) first appeared in the Meiji Period (1868-1912) and became known as one of Kyoto’s specialties. Enjoy the fruits of Kyoto’s ancestral wisdom and ingenuity.
“Obanzai” refers to traditional Kyoto-style home cooking made using locally-sourced seasonal ingredients. To ensure our guests experience the very best of Kyoto’s exquisite cuisine, which is not only tasty but also attractive to the eyes, we serve dashi-maki tamago (Japanese-style omelet baked with dashi broth soup) alongside five different “Obanzai” dishes that change each day.
The delicious flavors of chicken and vegetables are squeezed into the reduction, which makes up the base of our specialty Chinese soup “Shantan”. Add the finishing touches with belly-friendly beaten egg, and enjoy various toppings such as rayu, seaweed, Japanese parsley and sesame. Breakfast-ready hot and steamy Chinese congee rice porridge.
We offer variety of dishes featuring local vegetables from the region that are served either steamed or raw, in order to ensure the best taste. Enjoy the fresh flavors together with your preferred sauces and dressings.
Warm steamed vegetables
A warm vegetable salad, by steaming the vegetables we retain the delicious umami flavors of the raw ingredients. We recommend accompanying the salad with our specialty miso sauce which uses zingy ponzu. Please choose your favorite flavors to suit.
Fresh salad served as is
Our fresh salad features seasonal vegetables grown locally in Kyoto. We offer one of four original dressings each day, while other seasonings provided include rock salt, black pepper, and olive oil. Enjoy our fresh vegetable salad with various seasonings of your choice.
